History of La Manquita<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Malaga Cathedral took 200 years to build. It started in the 16th century on the site of an old mosque. From the moment the Cathedral of Malaga was built, its funding appeared to be in question. After 250 years, construction stopped, and the right tower remains unfinished. Locals also call their cathedral La Manquita the “one-armed” or “lame” lady because of this half tower. Due to the long construction period, the Cathedral of Malaga can distinguish between different architectural styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interior of building<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Located in the city center of Malaga, the interior of this cathedral is at least as impressive as its exterior. The church consists of many different chapels, each with its own function. The pipe organ from 1871 is one of the highlights inside the Cathedral of Malaga. Also particularly beautiful is the carved wooden priest choir, made up of nearly sixty statues. Please note that selfie sticks and flash photography are prohibited inside Malaga Cathedral. Carry-on groceries are also not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From July to September Malaga Cathedral is open to the public on weekdays between 10:00 and 21:00. On Saturdays it is open between 10.00 and 18.00 and on Sundays and public holidays between 14.00 and 18.00. Outside the high season the cathedral closes one hour earlier on weekdays. From Monday to Thursday, visits are free between 09:00 and 10:00. A ticket for Malaga Cathedral costs \u20ac6. Children under the age of thirteen do not pay.
